
Shri Amit Shukla is an officer of the Indian Forest Service 1999 batch, and is presently serving as Joint Secretary, Department of Rural Development, Government of India since October 2022. Shri Shukla holds a B.Tech. in Materials & Metallurgical Engineering from IIT Kanpur and Associate of IGNFA (Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy) in Forestry.
Shri Shukla has been a part of Team PMAY-G for implementing “Housing For All” and PMGSY for ensuring all weather connectivity to unconnected habitations in the country. He has also worked with Team IT regarding IT ecosystem of the Department.
Earlier, he had served as Director in the National Jal Jeevan Mission (2021–2022) in the cause of ensuring clean and potable, piped drinking water to rural habitations in the country.
Prior to this, he served as Chief Conservator of Forests, Government of Tripura (2019-2021) where he strengthened forestry field administration, assisted in launch of new schemes and rejuvenation of existing schemes, and upscaling of e-Citizen services, in house MIS and GIS capabilities. As part of Team Forests, Tripura, he worked towards implementation of the National Afforestation Programme, and other schemes and also for consolidating eco-tourism initiatives through eco-parks.
He has also worked in Team HRD, GoI for formulation and implementation of regulatory & funding reforms in higher education, enforcement of university policy through regulation and funding of university education.
He has been conferred with the Chief Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration (2021). He has also received following awards in Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (2002): –

2. Best All-Round Forester Award
3. The E.P. Gee Prize for Wildlife Management
