Access to Bank Credit:
National Housing Bank is an apex Financial Institution for the housing finance sector with its head-quarter at New Delhi and Representative Offices at Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkatta and Lucknow.
Besides its regulatory and developmental role, National Housing Bank is mainly engaged in providing refinance to the Commercial Banks, Regional Rural Banks (RRBs), Housing Finance Companies (HFCs) and other eligible institutions in the Co-operative sector. National Housing Bank is not engaged in retail lending to individual public and therefore, has not opened branches in various districts and other centres in the country.
The Bank, however, provides special attention to the minority communities and other weaker sections of population in its refinancing schemes. For example- the Bank has specifically provided that the refinance will be made available under the Rural Housing Fund Scheme (having corpus of Rs. 2000 crore) for on- lending to eligible borrowers in rural areas. Eligible borrowers under the scheme include persons from minority communities as notified by the Government of India. Further, in states such as Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Lakshadweep - where one of the minority communities notified is infact in majority, it will cover only other notified minorities.
Public Employment and Recruitment Procedures
National Housing Bank is an officer- oriented organization and does not have Group C & D staffs. The Bank gives special consideration to Minorities in its recruitment procedures. National Housing Bank encourages, inter-alia, women, minority communities and backward caste candidates to apply for recruitment.
The Bank had total 6 officers from the minorities on its rolls. Presently there are 2 officers from minority communities on the Bank’s rolls as against the total strength of 85 officers. |
